What has the EU done for the North East?

A:

100,000 jobs in the North East, like those at Nissan, Siemens, Hitachi and many smaller local businesses are linked to exports to
Europe. The Single Market has made this possible.

Visa free travel within the EU has encouraged tourism and hundreds of thousands of European visitors now come to the North East every year.

Our universities have benefitted enormously from European grants and joint working with other EU countries.

Our hospitals and community health services rely on over 1,000 EU workers.

Holidays are cheaper because of the EU - air travel in Europe became affordable for many people because of EU regulations enabling low cost airlines to operate across Europe, and the EU forced mobile phone companies to lower and cap their roaming charges.

We have cleaner air and beaches because of EU environmental rules - pollution won't stop at national borders.
