I'm voting tactically

On December 12th you can help stop Brexit

But you need to be registered to vote - make sure you are registered by November 26th

www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

With intelligent tactical voting to make sure we all vote for the candidate best placed to oppose Brexit in each constituency, we can get rid of Boris Johnson as Prime Minister, get rid of his Brexit deal and get rid of Brexit.

Any form of Brexit will lead to more months and years of negotiation over trade deals that will never be as good as the ones we have now. Don't get Brexit done, lets get rid of it and get on with all the other issues that need to be dealt with.

North East for Europe in London

On October 19th hundreds of people from the North East joined hundreds of thousands of people from across the country to take part in the People's Vote march in London, calling on Parliament to give everyone a #finalSay on Brexit.

It's all very well for the prime minister and his supporters to talk about democracy, but nobody knows what the majority of voters want any longer - the referendum was over three years ago. There are two million people who couldn't vote in 2016 but are now able to vote and are entitled to have their say, and they easily outnumber the 1.4 million majority that the Leave campaign had in 2016. And that's before you take account of all those who might have changed their views now that we all know more about Brexit/.

Thank you to everyone who joined the march in London, and to all those who couldn't go but sent messages of support.

The law now requires the government to ask for another extension. North East for Europe and the People's Vote campaign are asking everyone who agrees with us to sign a new letter to the Government and to European leaders, calling on them to enable us all to have the final say on the Brexit deal.

Coming up ...

There is much that is still uncertain at present - Does Boris really want a deal? Will he come up with any proposals the EU might agree with? What will parliament say? ...) but more and more MPs are accepting that a People's Vote - letting the people of this country make an informed decision about Brexit - is the best (or only) way out of the current mess.

On Saturday 19th October hundreds of people from the North East of England will be in London to demand that we the people, not Boris Johnson should have the final say on any deal or no-deal Brexit.

Come and join us: click here to tell the organiser's you are coming (it helps them plan) and you can click here to book a place on our coaches with pick ups in Newcastle, Durham and Darlington.

After a Queen's Speech (maybe) and the critical EU council on 17th October, we want to see London's streets again filled by a big "Let us be heard" march - let's put maximum pressure on MPs from all parties to give us a People's Vote with an option to stay in the EU.

October 19th - March on Parliament

October 19th - People's Vote March on Parliament

Its a little way off, but book the date - October 19th.

As the next Brexit or not-Brexit deadline approaches, we will again be in London in big numbers to demand that the people be heard.

As Boris Johnson's government prepares to drive the country over a no-deal cliff edge, and  over three years since the last referendum, the Leave campaign's promises iare n tatters ("an easy deal", "we will be better off", "the NHS will have lots of money" ...)

It is only right that the people of the UK are asked if this is what they want and voted for.

We will have more information about the day shortly, but have already started booking coaches for the day with pick up points in Newcastle, Durham and Darlington. Book here

Stop the Coup

North East for Europe's response to the proroguing of Parliament: (updated)

Boris Johnson's decision to suspend Parliament is an appalling attack on our democracy. He is an unelected prime minister and leader of a party that lost its majority at the last election, and yesterday's move to prorogue Parliament is an attempt to silence elected MPs as he pushes on with a version of Brexit that was rejected by the Leave campaign in 2016.

The coming days and weeks will be crucial and we need as many people as possible to fight back. The need for a democratic People's Vote is stronger than ever.

We urge everyone who can to do four things this week:

1) If you haven't yet done so, please sign the Parliamentary petition opposing the suspension of Parliament - we need to show MPs that this is an issue people care about.

2) Come to one of the "Stop the Coup" protests being on Saturday

11:00 Newcastle Monument (The demo planned for 12.00 has been combined with an earlier one and the combined one is expected to run until around 1pm)

12:00 Durham Millenium Square.

12:00 Darlington High Row

12:00 Middlesbrough Centre Square (MIMA)

(The demo in Newcastle planned for 12.00 Saturday has been combined with an earlier one and the combined one is expected to run until around 1pm - if you come for all oof it, come for when you can)

3) Sign up for and come to the People's Vote "Let us be heard" rally in The Assembly Rooms in Newcastle on Sunday (1st September) - information and free tickets from eventbrite.

4) Arrange to get to the Peoples Vote march in London on October 19th - Information on the march is at here and you can book places on coaches from Newcastle, Durham and Darlington here.

5) Write to your MP to tell them what you feel about the situation - they need to know! - Here are some suggestions of things you might want to mention:

30th August 2019
